22 5 A palaeontologist studies fossils. A “dig” is a site where palaeontologists try to find fossils. Sharon is a palaeontologist interested in studying an extinct rhinoceros called a teleoceras that lived in North America in the Miocene era (about 23 million to 5 million years ago). She has been offered two places on digs, one in California and the other in Montana. Both are new digs on sites dating from the Miocene era.
